ISIS suspect brainwashes young girls for militancy through social media in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, March 8 (Xinhua) -- An arrested militant of proscribed militant organization Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) confessed to investigation teams in Pakistan's Karachi that he trapped young, educated girls through social media and brainwashed them to join the group, local reports said Thursday.

A resident of the country's southwest Balochistan province, the militant Imran alias Saif-ul-Islam was arrested by pakistani Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) from Karachi a few days ago for managing social media pages to preach ISIS ideology and luring young people to militancy in the country.

FIA officials said that the terrorist is fluent in Persian language and is also good at information technology for which he got training from some handler of the outlawed group.

The militant told police that he used lesser known social media applications like Telegram to brainwash young people, especially women, after authorities started strict monitoring.

The Authority also seized ISIS flags, a laptop, internet devices and mobile phones from the militant.

The arrested insurgent reportedly told the investigation team that the group's social media network is being operated from some unknown place along Pakistan-Afghanistan border, and he was only an administrator of the group.

Pakistani law enforcement agencies have expanded the probe to other parts of the country after Imran's arrest. Enditem
