Taliban local commander among 5 killed in Afghan eastern province

JAJALABAD, Afghanistan March 8 (Xinhua) -- At least five Taliban militants, including their local commander, were killed and three others wounded during the operation conducted by Afghan intelligence special forces in Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan, a local official said.

"Special Operations Forces of National Directorate of Security (NDS) raided to a hideout of Taliban militants in Sorkh Road district of Nangarhar province on Wednesday night, as a result five insurgents including their local commander were killed and three others wounded," Ataullah Khogiani, spokesman for provincial governor told Xinhua.

During the operation, 12 suspected militants were also arrested, he said, adding the security personnel also eliminated a vehicle, four motorbikes and an ammunition cache.

Taliban militants who are fighting against government forces in Afghanistan have not made comment about the report so far. Enditem
