Man suspected of killing policeman in Russia's Kazan commits suicide

MOSCOW, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- A man suspected of killing a special police officer in a shooting incident in Russia's city of Kazan has committed suicide during the operation to detain him, the country's Interior Ministry said in a statement Wednesday.

The shooting incident which happened on Tuesday night was caused by a domestic conflict between the shooter, his wife and her brother, said the statement. According to a preliminary report, the shooter was drunk.

The 37-year-old perpetrator had been earlier arrested for ten days over disorderly conduct. After being released, the man took a gun and went to confront his wife and her brother, who was providing shelter for the woman.

In an exchange of gunfire, three people were injured, including two policemen. Later, one of the wounded policemen died in an ambulance.

The special operation is over and a criminal investigation has been launched into the case, said the statement. Enditem
