Singapore stocks close 0.42 pct lower

SINGAPORE, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going down 0.42 percent or 14.75 points to close at 3533.99.

A total of 2.30 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.93 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.48 billion U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 256 to 195.

The STI index closed down 0.79 percent or 28.33 points to close at 3548.7 Tuesday. Enditem
