Norway exported weapons for over 400 million USDs in 2017

OSLO, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Norway exported weapons of total value of 3.4 billion kroner (432.5 million U.S. dollars) last year, which is almost 1.5 billion kroner more than in 2016, newspaper Aftenposten reported Tuesday.

According to Statistics Norway, around half of the export share went to NATO countries, mostly to the United States and Poland (655 million kroner and 382 million kroner respectively), while non-NATO country Oman imported Norwegian weapons for more than one billion kroner.

This made export to non-NATO countries three times as much as the previous year, Aftenposten wrote.

Oman has in this way become Norwegian biggest customer in terms of purchase of weapons and weapon parts. Last year the Middle Eastern country received Norwegian air defense system NASAMS, which had been ordered in 2014. Enditem
