DAVOS, Switzerland -- The 48th World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting opened Tuesday in Davos, a ski resort town of Switzerland, with heads of state and government calling for 2018 to be the year of collaboration and multilateralism to address major global challenges like climate change, terrorism and protectionism.

During his speech at the opening plenary of WEF 2018, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said climate change tops the list of common challenges faced by today's world, but the world has done little so far to tackle the greatest threat to all human civilizations. (Switzerland-WEF-Opening)

BERLIN -- A light aircraft and a helicopter on Tuesday collided with each other in the air near the western Germany city of Karlsruhe, killing four people, local police said.

The police of Karlsruhe said on its Twitter account that it was a collision between a rescue helicopter and a sport plane. (Germany-Aircraft-Collision)

CAIRO -- Egypt's army said Tuesday that it will summon former military chief of staff Sami Anan, who announced running for presidency in an upcoming election, over committing violations, said an army televised statement.

JAKARTA -- Dozens of houses have been destroyed after a 6.1-magnitude earthquake rocked Indonesia's capital and Banten province on Tuesday, officials said here.
