1st LD Writethru: 4 killed in mid-air aircraft collision in Germany

BERLIN, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- A light aircraft and a helicopter on Tuesday collided with each other in the air near the western Germany city of Karlsruhe, killing four people, local police said.

The police of Karlsruhe said on its Twitter account that it was a collision between a rescue helicopter and a sport plane.

Rescue workers, firefighters and several rescue helicopters have been deployed at the accident site.

German media Focus Online reported that the collision took place in the sky between Rheinhausen and the Erlichsee. The accident site was reported to be near a gravel pit.

It was still unclear about the reason of the accident. Enditem
