BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.77 percent to 3,436.59 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.7 percent higher at 11,386.91 points.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished higher on Tuesday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index up 1.11 points, or 0.33 percent, to close at 341.03.

A total of 1,466 shares worth 6.08 million riel (1,514 U.S. dollars) were traded.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Tuesday down 0.85 percent compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 8.28 points to reach 969.67 points after closing.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Tuesday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index finishing at its highest level in more than 26 years as the yen's softer tone against the U.S. dollar lifted exporters issues and raised hopes for earnings results at the end of the month.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 236.93 points, or 1.00 percent, from Monday to close the day at 23,951.81, marking its highest closing level since Nov. 15, 1991.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher on Tuesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 18.01 points or 0.72 percent to settle at 2,521.74. Trading volume stood at 337 million shares worth 4.7 trillion won (4.2 billion U.S. dollars).

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.08 percent higher on Tuesday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 7.41 points to 8,865.13. The all-share index went up by 0.66 points, or 0.01 percent, to 5,127.25.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 1,062.96 points on Tuesday, down 0.51 points, or 0.05 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 340.273 million shares worth 8.281 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (369.95 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 128 stocks went up, 145 stocks fell down, while 68 stocks remained unchanged.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 565.88 points, or 1.81 percent, to 31,904.75 points on Tuesday, hitting a record closing high.
