MADRID, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Seven immigrants died when trying to reach the Spanish island of Lanzarote, in the archipelago of the Canary Islands, Spanish Civil Guard reported on Monday.

The seven people travelled in a small boat along with 20 others, who jumped into the water and saved their lives before the boat ran aground, when trying to reach a beach called Bastian, in Costa Teguise, one of the main touristic areas of the island.

According to the Civil Guard, two people were attended by medical services and the other 18 were sent to the civil guard station.

Local media informed that rescue services found five bodies on the boat while another person was recovered from the sea. Authorities did not give any details about the seventh person. Enditem
