Police arrest 28 for mob attack on Indian state chief minister

NEW DELHI, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Indian police have arrested 28 people in connection with a mob attack on the convoy of the chief minister of the eastern state of Bihar last week.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's cavalcade came under attack in Buxar district Friday during his state-wide tour to take stock of his government's development schemes over the years. Though he escaped unhurt in the attack, some of his security guards sustained injuries.

"We have arrested some 28 people, including 10 women, for the attack on Kumar. They are being interrogated. We have formed special teams to nab all the culprits involved in the incident. More arrests are likely," a senior police official said Monday.

In fact, police have booked some 500 people for the incident that rocked the state. All those people threw large stones and bricks on the chief minister's convoy in Nandan village in Buxar district. A day after the attack, police carried out a flag march in the village.

Kumar, however, is not deterred by the attack and has gone ahead with his state-wide tour. Enditem
