Nightclub ceiling collapse injures 26 in Madrid

MADRID, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- 26 people were injured in the early hours of Sunday morning when the ceiling of a nightclub in the Spanish capital of Madrid collapsed, emergency services reported.

The incident happened in the "La Suegra" discotheque in Carabanchel district, southern Madrid, at around 1:30 a.m. local time when around 16 square meters of the ceiling on the second floor collapsed onto those below.

26 people were injured, with the ambulance service reporting that 15 received treatment from emergency services at the scene, and 11 taken to different hospitals.

The Fire Brigade were also on the scene to help rescue victims, and they immediately closed the upper floor of the building to prevent any further collapses.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident. Enditem
