Morocco's economic growth to slow to 2.8 pct in 2018

Xinhua,January 12, 2018 Adjust font size:

RABAT, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Morocco's economic growth will slow to 2.8 percent in 2018, down from four percent last year, local media reported on Thursday.

Citing the head of Morocco's official high planning committee (HCP) Ahmed Lahlimi, Le360.ma news site said the decline is due mainly to decrease and delay in rainfall, which would significantly affect agricultural production.

Agricultural output will decline by 1.3 percent in 2018 against a rise of 13.6 percent in 2017, according to the official.

As for non-agricultural activities, Lahlimi said it would witness a "slight rise" from 2.8 percent in 2017 to 2.9 percent in 2018.

Annual inflation will rise to 1.5 percent in 2018 from 0.2 percent last year, he said.

The budget deficit would fall to 3.5 percent this year from 4 percent in 2017, he added. Enditem
