U.S. bombers to take part in exercise in Lithuanian skies

VILNIUS, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- U.S. bombers and personnel are to attend a joint military exercise in Lithuanian skies this week, announced the U.S. embassy in Lithuania on Thursday and confirmed the Lithuanian Defense Ministry.

According to the embassy's announcement, the joint U.S. and Lithuania air force exercise will be attended by the aircraft and personnel from the 5th Bomb Wing at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota. The training is aimed at improving interoperability between the U.S. and Lithuanian forces.

The Lithuanian defense ministry confirmed in an announcement that the joint military exercise takes place on Thursday and Friday in Kazlu Ruda training site, southern Lithuania.

"The exercise which will be attended by the U.S. bombers and Lithuanian Army air attack command group will train to ensure communication between the U.S. and Lithuanian soldiers, coordination, readiness to conduct high skilled tasks," said the Lithuanian Defense Ministry.

The embassy and the ministry didn't disclose more details in terms of the number of aircraft and models that attend the joint training. Enditem
