BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.1 percent to end at 3,425.34 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.24 percent higher at 11,464.2 points.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 46.67 points, or 0.15 percent, to 31,120.39 points on Thursday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 30,950.07 and 31,133.18. Turnover totaled 128.80 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 16.46 billion U.S. dollars).

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 0.22 percent or 7.77 points to close at 3,512.68.

A total of 3.26 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.06 billion Singapore dollars (about 797.08 million U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 248 to 185.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Thursday as a comparatively firm yen against the U.S. dollar dented exporter issues amid concern the Bank of Japan may taper its monetary stimulus program.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 77.77 points, or 0.33 percent, from Wednesday to end the day at 23,710.43.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed flat on a positive note Thursday as benchmark indices gave up some gains in late trade.

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 34,503.49, 70.42 points or 0.2 percent up compared to its previous close at 34,433.07.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Thursday moved up 7.88 points, or 0.44 percent to close at 1,802.80 points.
