Two Chicago museums increase admission fees

CHICAGO, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Chicago Museum of Science and Industry and the Chicago History Museum will increase their admission fees starting from February 1, 2018, and the Chicago Park District Board has endorsed the increases Wednesday.

After the increase, Chicagoans aged 12 and up will pay 16.95 dollars per person to enter the Museum of Science and Industry, as against current 15 dollars, while the fee for Chicago children aged 3 to 11 dropped slightly from 10 dollars to 9.95 dollars.

For adults living outside Chicago, the fee will be increased from 18 dollars to 21.95 dollars; and for children living outside the city, the fee will be increased from 11 dollars to 12.95 dollars.

The rule of free entry for children under three will remain.

For the Chicago History Museum, the admission fee for Chicago adults will increase from 14 dollars to 17 dollars; and for tourists from outside the city, from 16 dollars to 19 dollars.

But the Chicago History Museum will extend its free admission to Illinois teens, and children aged 12 and under can get in for free. Chicago History Museum currently charges children aged 13 to 18 12 dollars if they lived in the city and 14 dollars if they didn't.

Revenue generated by admission fees increases will help pay for operating expenses at museums, Chicago Tribune reported.

The last time for the Museum of Science and Industry to increase admission fee was in 2013; and for the Chicago History Museum, in 2016. Enditem
