Tokyo stocks open flat on U.S. shares' advance, profit taking

Xinhua,January 10, 2018 Adjust font size:

TOKYO, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened almost flat Wednesday, as some investors opted to buy on the back of strong U.S. shares overnight, while others were content to sell to lock in gains after the Nikkei's recent solid run.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average inched up 11.54 points, or 0.05 percent, from Tuesday to 23,861.53.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged 3.66 points, or 0.19 percent, higher at 1,892.95.

Mining and bank issues comprised notable gainers in the opening minutes after the morning bell, while air transportation and food-oriented issues led those that declined. Enditem
