Aussie dollar lower against firmer greenback

Xinhua,January 10, 2018 Adjust font size:

SYDNEY, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Australian dollar lost ground against a stronger U.S. counterpart, which extended the previous day's gains amid a rise in global bond yields.

At 07:00 (AEDT) on Wednesday, the Aussie dollar was trading at 78.24 U.S. cents, from 78.54 U.S. cents on Tuesday.

Westpac senior market strategist Imre Speizer said in a morning note that global equities rose, with most U.S. indices making fresh record highs. Global bond yields also rose as the greenback built on its gains.

"Market chatter was focussed on Japan's central bank's reduction in bond purchases and China's central bank's apparent loosening of its currency management," he said.

Investors were looking to event risks such as China's December financing and new loans figures, added Speizer.

At 09:15 (AEDT), the Australian dollar was buying 78.21 U.S. cents. Enditem
