UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- The UN secretary-general's special representative will visit Malabo next week to meet with the authorities of Equatorial Guinea following an attempted coup in the country on Dec. 28, the UN announced on Thursday.

"We are aware of reports of an attempted coup d'etat in Equatorial Guinea on Dec. 28. Little information has emerged on the details of the attempt," Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, told reporters. "We condemn all attempts to seize power unconstitutionally."

He said Francois Lounceny Fall, Guterres' special representative and head of the UN Regional Office for Central Africa, will travel to Malabo next week to meet the authorities of the country. Enditem
