Spanish treasury places 4.64 bln euro on market in first auction of 2018

MADRID, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Spanish treasury placed on Thursday treasury bonds with a value of 4.64 billion euros (5.59 billion U.S. dollars) on the market in the first auction of 2018.

The treasury registered a high demand of more than 9.3 billion euros.

A total of 1.83 billion euros worth of 10-year treasury bonds carried an average interest rate of 1.56 percent and a further 1.04 billion euros worth of 30-year treasury bonds fetched an average interest rate of 2.83 percent.

The placement also included 960 million euros worth of five-year treasury bonds that carried an average interest rate of 0.356 percent and 800 million euros worth of 15-year inflation-indexed treasury bonds that fetched an average interest rate of 0.47 percent.

The treasury will hold another auction on Jan. 16 and 18. (1 euro= 1.2 U.S. dollars) Enditem
