Over 200 flights canceled in Chicago due to East Coast winter storm

Xinhua,January 05, 2018 Adjust font size:

CHICAGO, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- The winter storm that is slamming U.S. East Coast leads to more than 200 flight cancellation in Chicago on Thursday morning.

According to Chicago Department of Aviation, by 9:30 a.m. local time, Chicago O' Hare International Airport had cancelled more than 180 flights and the Midway Airport, more than 50 flights.

Travelers at the airports are also expecting more than 15-minute delays.

Most of the flights cancelled have East Coast destinations, a statement of the aviation department said.

After embracing the coldest day this winter on the New Year's Day, when the high dropped to minus 15 Celsius degrees and the low plummeted to minus 20 Celsius degrees, Chicago, the third largest U.S. city has stayed in cold and chill this year, with high general below minus 10 Celsius degrees and low around minus 18 Celsius degrees.
