Singapore stocks close 1.06 pct higher

SINGAPORE, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks ended higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 1.06 percent or 36.88 points to close at 3501.16.

A total of 2.63 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 2.00 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.51 billion U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 272 to 163.

The STI index was up 0.99 percent or 33.98 points to close at 3464.28 Wednesday. Enditem
