TIRANA, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- Some 36 tonnes of cannabis were seized by Albanian authorities during 2017, Albanian police told reporters Wednesday.

Authorities also seized 20 tonnes of marijuana last year.

According to police, the drugs were seized in joint operations with Italian police since most of the drugs loads were seized while being transported towards Italy.

In first days of 2018, 1.6 tonnes of cannabis were seized in a joint Albanian-Italian police raid, resulting in the arrest of three Albanian citizens.

The fight against cultivation and trafficking of drugs was one of key objectives set by Albanian government last year. Enditem
