German shares gain 0.83 pct Wednesday

FRANKFURT, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- German stocks rose on Wednesday, with the benchmark DAX index up 106.82 points, or 0.83 percent, to close at 12,978.21 points.

German industrial giant Thyssenkrupp won the most among the blue chips, with its shares up 4.41 percent. Automotive manufacturer Volkswagen and semiconductor manufacturer Infineon Technologies rose by 3.25 percent and 2.99 percent respectively.

European health care company Fresenius SE lost the most among the blue chips, by falling 1.05 percent. Deutsche Bank and energy group E.ON down by 0.60 percent and 0.55 percent respectively.

Manufacturing and electronics company Siemens was the most-traded share with a turnover of 289.22 million euros (347.72 million U.S. dollars). Enditem
