Manchester fire under control, one person injured

Xinhua,December 31, 2017 Adjust font size:

LONDON, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- At least one person has been taken to hospital after suffering injuries in a fire in a 12-storey building in central Manchester on Saturday.

The person has been suffering the effects of "inhaling smoke", the Sky news reported.

The report said that the fire has spread to multiple floors but is now "well under control" and the building is understood to have been safely evacuated.

Twelve fire crews were called to tackle the blaze on the upper floors of the building in Joiner Street, inside the city's Northern Quarter, just after 4 p.m.

The incident raised alarm as it came months after the Grenfell Tower fire that claimed 71 lives in London. Enditem
