BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.33 percent, at 3,307.17 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.61 percent higher at 11,040.45 points. The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.44 percent to close at 1,752.65 points.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed slightly lower Friday as initial gains made on the back of Wall Street's solid overnight lead were erased by investors opting to lock in gains on the final trading day of the year.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 19.04 points, or 0.08 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 22,764.94.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 55.44 points, or 0.19 percent, to 29,919.15 points on Thursday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 29,849.31 and 29,997.96. Turnover totaled 77.52 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 9.92 billion U.S. dollars).

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) closed up 0.11 percent or 3.82 points to close at 3402.92.

A total of 1.13 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.03 billion Singapore dollars (about 768.86 million U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 232 to 184.

JAKARTA -- Indonesia shares closed higher by 41.60 points, or 0.66 percent, to a level of 6,355.65 on Friday.

Some 311,646 transactions were booked, involving 24.6 billion copies of shares with a value of 27.6 trillion rupiah (about 2 billion U.S. Dollars).

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher Friday.

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 34,056.83, 208.80 points or 0.62 percent up compared to its previous close at 33,848.03.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Friday moved up 10.42 points, or 0.60 percent to close at 1,753.71 points.

Some 6.91 billion shares worth 45.37 billion baht (about 1.39 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished higher on Friday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index up 8.06 points, or 2.4 percent, to close at 344.56.

A total of 18,124 shares worth 63.84 million riel (15,842 U.S. dollars) were traded.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 116.86 points on Friday, up 0.45 points or 0.39 percent against the previous trading session.

Over 48.845 million shares worth some 741.801 billion Vietnamese dong (some 33.1 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Friday, an increase of 12.1 percent in volume and 1.2 percent in value against the previous trading session.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Friday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,796.81 up 17.71 points or 1.00 percent, and the Emas was at 12,942.57 up 151.16 points or 1.18 percent.

Turnover increase to 3.14 billion shares valued at 2.77 billion ringgit Malaysia (682.27million U.S. dollars), compared with 2.64 billion shares valued at 2.10 billion ringgit Malaysia (514.70million U.S. dollars) on Thursday.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 984.24 points on Friday, up 7.52 points, or 0.77 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 211.111 million shares worth 6.404 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (285.57 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange.

VN30-Index, the new benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 975.52 points, up 8.61 points or 0.89 percent.

A total of 78.235 million shares worth 4.090 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND)(182.39 million U.S. dollars) were traded on Friday.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.27 percent higher on Friday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 23.33 points to 8,558.42. The all-share index went up by 26.27 points, or 0.53 percent, to 4,989.97.

Trading volume reached 3.34 billion shares worth 7.26 billion pesos (145.44 million U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market closed lower on Friday, with gains in the mining sector unable to lift the muted trading at the end of the year.
