Azerbaijan population to reach 10 mln by 2019: minister

BAKU, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Azerbaijan's population is projected to hit 10 million by the year 2019, the country's minister of labor and social protection of population said here on Wednesday.
Azerbaijani nationals under the age of 14 account for 22.6 percent of the country's total population, while those aged 14-29 years account for 25 percent, Salim Muslumov told a conference.
Those aged 30-64 account for 46.1 percent of the total population, while the number of people aged 65 years and older account for 6.3 percent, according to the minister.
Muslumov said that from 2005 to 2016, Azerbaijan's economically active population grew 17.2 percent with higher growth rates observed in the spheres of construction, accommodation of tourists, catering, information and communication.
The current population of Azerbaijan is about 9.872 million, based on the latest United Nations estimates. Azerbaijan population is equivalent to 0.13 percent of the total world population.
Azerbaijan ranks No. 90 in the list of countries (and dependencies) by population, with 55 percent of the population urban. The median age in Azerbaijan is 30.7 years. Enditem
