Chicago agricultural commodities open mixed

Xinhua,December 21, 2017 Adjust font size:

CHICAGO, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) agricultural commodities opened mixed in morning trading on Wednesday with soybeans edging slightly lower on a less threatening temperature forecast for the United States next week.

March corn was up 1 cent at 3.485 U.S. dollars per bushel as of 1535 GMT in the morning trading. March wheat edged up 2.75 cents at 4.2225 dollars, while January soybeans was down 1.25 cents at 9.5475 dollars.

The volume of overnight CBOT trade has been active in soybeans with more than 20,000 contracts of January soybeans changing hands, while corn and wheat volume has been normal. Just over 5,000 contracts of March corn and just over 7,000 contracts of March wheat have been traded.

Analysts say weather worry for major agricultural commodities exporters Argentina and Brazil continues and will likely worsen during January amid La Nina.

They hold that fund managers sitting on a combined record short grain position are likely to take some profits off the table heading into 2018. Enditem
