ABUJA -- Ten people were confirmed dead after a commercial bus and a truck collided in Nigeria's southwestern state of Ogun, an official said on Wednesday.

Babatunde Akinbiyi, a spokesman for the local traffic police in the state capital of Abeokuta, said the accident happened on the Abeokuta-Ibadan expressway late Tuesday. (Nigeria-Accident)

WARSAW -- Poland on Wednesday regretted the European Commission decision to launch Article 7, saying the Commission's decision is "essentially political, not legal in its nature", Poland's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"We are always ready for talks. During the last European summit, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki confirmed our will to continue the dialogue at the highest level with the Commission, which was positively welcomed by the other side," it said. (Poland-EU)

SULAIMANIYAH, Iraq -- Two Kurdish Gorran and Islamic parties withdrew Wednesday from the government of the semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan in northern Iraq amid widespread anger over unpaid salaries and corruption.

"The Kurdish Change Movement (Gorran) and the Islamic Group of Kurdistan (Komela) decided to withdraw from Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), headed by Nichervan Barzani," a source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity. (Iraq-Kurds)

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan -- At least seven Afghan police personnel and 15 militants were killed after Taliban attacked security checkpoints in northern province of Kunduz early on Wednesday, local police said.

"Armed militants attacked the security posts in Daadusi village of Archi district and the security forces repelled the attackers after a three-hour clash and exchange of gun fire," provincial police spokesman Inham Uddin Rahmani told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Militant Attacks-Casualties) Enditem
