MiG-29 plane crashes in Poland during landing preparation

WARSAW, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- A MiG-29 aircraft crashed Monday evening when it prepared for a landing at the airport in Minsk Mazowiecki, a town near capital Warsaw.

The pilot survived the crash and has been sent to hospital.

The event took place around 5:15 p.m. when the communication between the aircraft and the base was lost during a landing preparation, according to a statement issued by the Polish Ministry of National Defense.

The army immediately started a rescue operation, said the statement.

According to the ministry, the pilot managed to catapult before crashing and his life is not in danger.

The latest information provided by the national broadcaster TVP Info says the plane has also been found.

The exact cause of the event is still unknown. Enditem
