BERLIN, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Leipzig extended the contract with custodian Peter Gulacsi ahead of schedule, the Bundesliga club confirmed in an official statement on Monday.

The 27-year-old Hungary international has penned a two-year contract extension and will stay with Leipzig until June 2022.

"Peter has been our number one since our promotion to the Bundesliga. He plays consistently on a high level and saved us several points. We are therefore pleased that we were able to extend the contract ahead of scheduled for two years," Leipzig's sporting director Ralf Rangnick said.

Gulacsi joined the "Bulls" from Salzburg in July 2015 to make 73 appearances since his arrival.

"I am very happy about my contract extension. I feel incredibly well at this club and in this city. I am looking forward to all the exciting task that await us," Gulacsi told the club's official homepage.

Leipzig sit currently on the 5th place of the Bundesliga standings. They encounter runner up Schalke after the winter break on January 13. Enditem
