Suspected IS member detained near Madrid

Xinhua,December 18, 2017 Adjust font size:

MADRID, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Spanish police detained a 19-year-old suspected member of the Islamic State (IS) in a town close to Madrid in the early hours of Monday, the Spanish Interior Ministry said in a release.

The suspect, who was born in Morocco and gained Spanish nationality at the age of 16, is "at a very advanced stage of recruitment and has openly expressed his desire to become a martyr and an 'instrument' of the terrorist war and jihadism," said the release.

In recent months, the suspected IS member showed "a dangerous deterioration in his behavior," which prompted the police to take action.

Just like many other suspected IS members detained in Spain, the man used several different profiles on social media and has obtained "a large amount of audio-visual material and documents," the release said.

He is also accused of distributing propaganda materials with explicit symbols of the IS.

The man is the 263rd suspected IS member detained in Spain since the beginning of 2015. Enditem
