5 dead, 20 injured in coal mine accident in SW China

GUIYANG, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Five people were killed and 20 injured in a coal mine accident in southwest China's Guizhou Province, local authorities said Thursday.

The accident occurred at 06:38 pm Wednesday at Kongjiagou Coal Mine in Weining County, and was caused by a gas fire.

More than 500 people were involved in the rescue, and the injured were rushed to hospital for medical treatment.

An investigation is underway. Enditem
