Millonarios gain edge over Santa Fe in Colombia top flight final

Xinhua,December 14, 2017 Adjust font size:

BOGOTA, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- A first-half goal from Uruguayan defender Matias de los Santos earned Millonarios a 1-0 victory over Independiente Santa Fe in the first leg of Colombia's first division Clausura final on Wednesday.

Santos struck in the 32nd minute at El Campin by flicking a near-post header into the far corner after a Juan Dominguez free-kick.

Santa Fe's best chance came in second-half stoppage time when Omar Perez met Juan Valencia's cross with a sliding shot that forced a finger-tip save from Nicolas Vikonis.

Millonarios have won Colombia's top flight title 14 times while their traditional Bogota rivals Santa Fe are nine-time champions.

The decisive second leg will also be played at the Campin on Sunday. The winning team will earn the right to play in next year's Copa Libertadores, South America's premier club tournament. Enditem
