1st LD: Republican Moore projected to lose Alabama Senate race

Xinhua,December 13, 2017 Adjust font size:

WASHINGTON, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Republican Roy Moore, who has been accused of pursuing and molesting multiple teenage girls in his 30s, was defeated by his Democratic rival Doug Jones in Alabama's special Senate election on Tuesday, media reports projected here.

Polls closed at 8:00 p.m. eastern time (0100 GMT Wednesday) in the deep red U.S. state.

U.S. President Donald Trump fully endorsed Moore last week, citing Democrats' refusal to support tax cuts as the reason "why we need Republican Roy Moore to win in Alabama." Enditem
