As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged 9.04 points, or 0.04 percent lower, from Tuesday to 22,857.13.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, inched up 2.62 points, or 0.14 percent, at 1,817.70.
