Majority of U.S. voters say Moore should be expelled from Senate if he wins

WASHINGTON, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- More than 60 percent of U.S. voters say that the Senate should expel Alabama Republican Roy Moore if he wins the southern state's ongoing special election, according to a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll issued on Tuesday.
Sixty-one percent of voters backing the expulsion include 77 percent of Democrats, 59 percent of independents and 45 percent of Republicans, the poll finds.
Only 17 percent of voters think the Senate should not expel Moore if he defeats Democrat Doug Jones in Tuesday's election, including seven percent of Democrats, 16 percent of independents and 29 percent of Republicans.
Moore, an evangelical Christian who has been accused of pursuing and molesting multiple teenage girls while in his 30s, is in a close race with Jones to fill the remaining three years of now-Attorney General Jeff Sessions' unexpired term in the Senate. Moore has denied all of the accusations.
U.S. President Donald Trump fully endorsed Moore last week, citing Democrats refusal to support tax cuts as the reason "why we need Republican Roy Moore to win in Alabama." Enditem
