Jordan, World Bank sign 200 mln USD finance agreement

Xinhua,December 13, 2017 Adjust font size:

AMMAN, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Jordan and the World Bank on Tuesday signed a 200 million U.S. dollars financing agreement to support the state budget and the education sector, the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation said Tuesday.

Of the total amount, around 147.7 million dollars are soft loans, while the rest are grant, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury said in a statement.

The loan will be paid back over a period of 35 years with a grace period of five years and with a very low interest rate.

He added that the finance will support the education sector and projects listed in the state budget.

These projects, he said, will help improve services in various areas, especially in schools as Jordanian schools host a large number of Syrian refugees.

Jordan is home to some 1.3 million Syrian refugees. Enditem
