Polish new PM says gov't to focus on family, labour, housing

WARSAW, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Polish new Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, speaking after a swearing-in ceremony at the Presidential Palace on Monday, announced that his government would follow up on its predecessors' work and focus on family, labour and housing.

"I treat this public service not as power in my hand, but as an element of responsibility and decision-making on behalf of citizens, so that they can live better lives," Morawiecki stressed.

Among the top issues for his government, Morawiecki named "safe family", "decent jobs" and "affordable homes". However, these objectives can only be met when the economy thrives, the new head of government stressed. "And this is certainly what we're going to focus on," he vowed.

On the European and global arenas, the new government will be guided by the interests of Poland and its citizens, Morawiecki pledged during the swearing-in ceremony.

Morawiecki also said his government would make efforts to preserve Poland's cultural identity and heritage.

He stressed his cabinet would be a government of "hope and optimism", "as we are governing on behalf of citizens and for their benefit," he concluded.
