Nigeria declares "outright war" on corruption

Xinhua,December 12, 2017 Adjust font size:

ABUJA, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria's main anti-graft agency on Monday declared an outright war on government-related financial wrongdoing, saying the fight against corruption was a "do-or-die affair."

Ibrahim Magu, head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, told reporters in Abuja that the war against corruption must be won for the growth of Nigeria.

"The fight against corruption is now a war in which there is a clear line between forces of evil and those of good; between agents of progress and reactionary elements who mean no good," said Magu at an event held to mark the 2017 International Anti-corruption Day in Nigeria.

Speaking on "United Against Corruption for Development, Peace, and Security," the theme of the global celebration, the official said the anti-graft agency was working to "cure Nigeria of the evils of corruption." Enditem
