British stocks up 0.80 pct Monday

LONDON, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- British stocks rose on Monday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index up by 0.80 percent, or 59.52 points, to close at 7,453.48 points.

WPP, the British multinational advertising and public relations company, soared 2.61 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. HSBC Holdings and BHP Billiton increased by 2.52 percent and 2.27 percent, respectively.

The multinational hotel, coffee shop and restaurant company Whitbread was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 2.65 percent. Centrica, a British multinational utility company, dropped 1.80 percent. Smurfit Kappa Group, an Europe's leading corrugated packaging company, dropped 1.73 percent. Enditem
