SOFIA, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian customs have seized 25.666 kg of heroin at the Lesovo checkpoint on the country's southeastern border with Turkey, authorities said Monday.

The illicit drug, split into 50 packets, was found on Sunday in the double floor of a truck entering from Turkey, the National Customs Agency (NCA) said in a statement.

The driver of the vehicle, a 40-year-old Turkish citizen, was arrested at the scene, according to the statement.

Bulgaria is a key transit route for drugs smuggled from Asia to Europe. According to official data, the NCA seized 360 kg of heroin in 2016. Enditem
