KAMPALA, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Ugandan military on Friday said it is on high alert as the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) government troops pursue Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels in the eastern part of the neighboring country.
Brig. Richard Karemire, the Ugandan military spokesperson, told Xinhua that security has been enhanced at the common border with eastern DRC to ensure ADF do not cross into Uganda to cause havoc.
The Congolese army is currently hunting ADF, considered a terrorist group by the Ugandan government, in North Kivu province.
"We welcome DRC government commitment to annihilate ADF fighters that have conducted massacre of innocent civilians in eastern DRC," said Karemire.
"UPDF [Uganda People's Defense Forces] will keep on the alert at the Uganda side of the border to counter any ADF threats against our people," he said.
The ADF which was originally based in west Uganda but expanded into the neighboring DRC has been accused of increased killings and massacres of civilians, rape and abductions over the past three months in eastern DRC. Enditem
