Albanian central bank to issue new note

TIRANA, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- The central bank of Albania on Thursday said it decided to issue a new banknote at a denomination of 10,000 leks (about 88 U.S. dollars) next year.

The Supervisory Council of the Bank decided on Wednesday to approve the sample of the new banknote to be issued in early 2018, the Bank of Albania said in a press statement released on Thursday.

The new note will be the highest denomination Albanian banknote, surpassing the one worths 5,000 leks currently in circulation.

According to the bank, the new bill will show the portrait of the famous Albanian poet named Asdreni.

The bill also features the symbol of the European country's national flag and a line from the national anthem -- known otherwise as the Anthem of the Flag -- "Around our flag we stand united, with one wish and one goal" written by Asdreni.

The bank's supervisory council also approved other features of the new banknote, such as the name of the bank, the denominal value as well as the size of the note. Enditem
