Afghan security forces kill 15 militants in northern provinces

Xinhua,December 08, 2017 Adjust font size:

KABUL, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- At least 15 Taliban militants were killed and 10 others wounded by Afghan army personnel in two northern provinces, authorities said on Friday.

In early hours of Friday, three Taliban members were killed after special forces struck their position by an airstrike in Ghormach district of Faryab province, the command of Special Forces said in a statement.

In northern Kunduz province, 12 Taliban militants were killed and 10 others wounded during a cordon operation in Imam Sahib district, bordering Tajikistan on Thursday, according to a defense ministry statement.

Two militants' command posts and six bunkers were also destroyed as the army artillery struck the enemies' positions in Imam Sahib, the statement noted.

Afghan security forces and the NATO-led coalition troops have beefed up security operations and airstrikes against militants as the war-weary Afghans are facing upsurges in attacks by Taliban and IS militants across the country.

The Taliban militants have yet to make comments on the report. Enditem
