Tokyo shares close higher on stronger U.S. stocks, Japan's GDP data

TOKYO, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares closed higher Friday on strong U.S. stocks overnight and Japan's better-than-expected gross domestic product (GDP) data for July-September.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 313.05 points, or 1.39 percent, from Thursday at 22,811.08.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 17.48 points, or 0.98 percent, higher at 1,803.73.

Gainers were led by land transportation, precision instrument and marine transportation issues.

The day's turnover was around 3,746.5 billion yen (33.04 billion U.S. dollars). Enditem
