Aussie dollar weakens further against greenback

Xinhua,December 08, 2017 Adjust font size:

SYDNEY, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Australian dollar continued to weaken against its U.S. counterpart, which held steady after strengthening in the past week.

At 06:35 (AEDT) on Friday, the Aussie was trading at 75.08 U.S. cents, down from 75.44 U.S. cents on Thursday.

The greenback rose on the back of higher U.S. stocks and oil prices, but subsequently reversed its gains to hold steady, Westpac senior market strategist Imre Speizer said in a note to investors.

The key local event for the day would be the latest housing finance data, with October owner-occupier approvals expected to slide by more than 1 percent, he said.

At 09:04 (AEDT), the Australian dollar was buying 75.11 U.S. cents. Enditem
