Sudan rejects U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel

KHARTOUM, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Sudan rejected on Wednesday night the U.S. decision of recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

"Sudan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses Sudan's complete rejection to the decision by the U.S. President Donald Trump recognizing Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as the capital of Israel together with the U.S. plan to move its embassy to Al-Quds," said the Foreign Ministry in a statement.

It described the decision as "a flagrant violation of the decision of international legitimacy and of the rights of the Palestinian people."

"The decision is a threat to international peace and security and will have serious implications on the security and stability of the region," it noted.

The ministry further reiterated Sudan's rejection to violation of the legal and political status of the holy city.

"This announcement is against the international decisions which confirm the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state and destroys the peace process in the Middle East," said the ministry.

It renewed Sudan's solidarity with the Palestinian people in their fair cause and legal right to establish their Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Trump on Wednesday formally recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and instructed to move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Enditem
