Tunisia's inflation rises in November to 6.3 pct

TUNIS, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Tunisia's inflation rate rose to 6.3% in November 2017, from 5.8% in October due to the steady rise in food prices at 8.7%, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) of Tunisia announced Wednesday.

"Since the beginning of this year, inflation has continued to rise from 4.6% in January, 5% in April and 6.3% in November, while it shows a stabilization at 4.8% during the period September-October," revealed the INS.

According to the same source, this upward trend of inflation is explained by the soaring prices of the food-drink group with growth of 8.7% in addition to the noticeable rise in prices for the edible oils, at 23.7%.

In addition, the upward trend affected, year-on-year, also the alcoholic-tobacco group, whose price growth amounted to 8.3%. Similarly for consumption groups such as clothing and footwear, 6.6%, grouped together.

As for the home-energy group, prices are also rising by 4.4%, transport 5.5%, education 6.5%, the health 4% and telecommunications 2.2%. Enditem
