HOUSTON, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- U.S. First Lady Melania Trump on Wednesday traveled to the southern U.S. state of Texas to visit Hurricane Harvey responders and victims there.

Melania Trump and Karen Pence, the wife of Vice U.S. President Mike Pence, flew to Corpus Christi, a town on the Gulf Coast hit hard by Hurricane Harvey more than three months ago.

Texas First Lady Cecilia Abbott and Land Commissioner George P. Bush took part in the visit that also included a stop in nearby Rockport, a city where Harvey destroyed hundreds of homes and businesses. The group also visited an elementary school in the area.

President Donald Trump and the first lady traveled to the Houston area, Texas, days after Harvey made landfall to comfort victims and thank emergency personnel.

Harvey blew ashore on Aug. 25 as the most powerful hurricane to hit Texas in more than 50 years, displacing hundreds of thousands of people, damaging nearly 200,000 homes. Enditem
