FIFA lifts ban on Kuwaiti football

KUWAIT CITY, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Visiting FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced Wednesday in Kuwait that a two-year ban imposed on Kuwait's football federation has officially been lifted.

Meeting with the Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the FIFA chief said he hoped the lifting would be the start of a new era for the soccer-crazed Gulf nation and he was proud that Kuwait has rejoined the FIFA family.

The Emir expressed his gratitude to FIFA's head for his unyielding support for Kuwaiti athletes, which he said was imperative to allow the nation's youth the opportunity to excel.

Last Sunday, the Kuwaiti parliament agreed to amend sports laws during a special two sessions.

FIFA banned Kuwait's national soccer federation in 2015 over alleged government interference in the running of the country's football governing body. Enditem
